The government defied calls to quarantine arrivals from Greece amid renewed demands for airport testing as an alternative to travel restrictions.

It signalled that there would be no change in the status of holidaymakers from Greece despite the imposition of quarantine measures by Scotland and Wales.

However, the government is due to confirm today that people arriving in all parts of the UK from Portugal would be forced to self-isolate for two weeks.

The change is likely to be made from 4am on Saturday, exactly a fortnight after a quarantine-free “travel corridor” was established between Britain and Portugal.
