Hospitals across Devon and Cornwall have gone a third straight day without reporting any coronavirus deaths, according to the latest figures.

NHS England has released statistics which detail the number of deaths confirmed at hospitals around the country in the 24 hours up to 5pm on Wednesday (June 17).

It says that a further 62 people diagnosed with COVID-19 had died, taking England's total to 28,175.

However, for the third consecutive day, none of these deaths were at hospitals in Devon and Cornwall.

The last time a death was confirmed by NHS England at a hospital in either of the counties was on Monday (June 15) when the 46th person to die from coronavirus was reported at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

This took the total for Devon to 190 with 82 recorded at Derriford Hospital, 39 at Torbay Hospital, 21 at North Devon District Hospital and two at Mount Gould.

Across the Tamar, there have been 90 deaths reported - the last of which came on June 2 - with 64 at the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske and 26 deaths within the Cornwall Partnership Foundation Trust.

A statement from NHS England said: "A further 62 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 28,175.

"Patients were aged between 13 days and 96 years old. Three patients, aged between 13 days and 83, had no known underlying health conditions.

"Their families have been informed."

NHS England added that as part of a "continual process to improve the quality of the dataset recording COVID-related deaths", 25 recorded deaths have been removed which had been reported twice in error.

"These changes have been incorporated in the data published today and are reflected in the total number of reported deaths in hospitals in England," NHS England said.
